The conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate, with both sides launching attacks against each other. Recently, Israel successfully targeted a natural gas field in southern Iran, drawing significant attention from the international community. In the face of such a powerful adversary, why is Israel able to maintain its advantage?

Finance expert You Ting-Hao analyzed the military capabilities of both nations, pointing out that while Iran has overwhelming troop numbers and equipment, its level of modernization pales in comparison to Israel. He emphasized that the primary battleground for both countries is not on land, but in the air, where Israel holds a clear advantage.

Specifically, Israel's defense budget reaches $19.2 billion, nearly three times that of Iran (around $7.4 billion). In terms of air power, Israel possesses 39 advanced F-35 fighter jets, while Iran still relies on outdated models from the 1960s and 70s, such as the F-4, F-5, and F-14. Additionally, Israel's fleet includes 20 AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, far surpassing Iran's reliance on older AH-1J Cobras.

On the ground, although Iran boasts overwhelming numbers with 1,593 tanks, 2,030 towed artillery pieces, and 200 small naval vessels, Israel's 400 MkIV main battle tanks, while fewer in number, are equipped with more advanced armor and artillery systems. Furthermore, Israel has deployed five attack submarines, underscoring its technological superiority at sea.

You Ting-Hao concluded that if the Iranian army intends to attack Israel, it must first pass through Iraq, Jordan, and Syria, creating significant logistical challenges. The majority of engagements between the two forces occur in the air, where Israel enjoys overwhelming superiority.

Many analysts believe that although Iran appears to have an advantage in numbers, its actual military effectiveness and modernization lag considerably. How Israel leverages its advanced technology and strategic planning could be the deciding factors in future confrontations.
