At the 27th Taipei Film Festival, Thai actor Wan Lothong Kangka won the Best Actor award for his outstanding performance in the film White Robe Blue Dog. His emotional acceptance speech delivered in fluent Chinese brought tears to many in the audience. The awards ceremony gathered many stars and filmmakers from across Taiwan to celebrate this annual event.

The ceremony took place today (the 5th), with Wang Bojie and Fu Mengbo presenting the Best Actor award. Wan Lothong Kangka triumphed over strong contenders such as Lan Weihua, Pan Gangda, Chen Bolin, and Huang Guanzhi. In addition to being nominated for the Golden Horse Award last year, he has now secured the title of Best Actor at the Taipei Film Festival.

During his acceptance speech, Wan Lothong Kangka expressed his gratitude despite stating, “I’m sorry my Chinese is not good.” He went on to thank the judges, the film festival, and his fellow nominees, saying, “I admire everyone’s performances, I want to thank the director and all the actor friends who supported me. Without them, I would not be here. This award belongs to White Robe Blue Dog; without you all, I couldn’t stand here tonight.”

Winning this award is a significant milestone in Wan Lothong Kangka’s career, and it elevates his profile in Taiwan’s film industry. The Taipei Film Festival this year showcased not only excellent actors and films but also heartwarming moments and stories. Other notable winners at the festival included Lin Shuyu, who received the Best Screenplay award, with his wife Xia Yujiao presenting the honor to him, creating a touching scene.

The evening was also marked by Wang Bojie’s return to the public eye after a one-year hiatus, during which he reflected on past controversies, including a drunk driving incident. His lighthearted exchanges with Fu Mengbo added a light-hearted note to the atmosphere. Furthermore, Xu Mingjie shared insights about his own three-year absence from the industry due to past controversies, drawing media attention.
