Avoiding the Repetition of Han Kuo-yu's 2020 Setbacks, Opposition Alliance Holds Anti-Referendum Rally in Taichung on July 12

The opposition alliance and the "Fighting Blue" coalition will hold an anti-referendum rally titled "Love Me Again" in Taichung on July 12, aimed at boosting the economy and countering the referendum wave. The event was originally planned to take place across from the Empire Sugar Factory near Taichung Railway Station, but due to the muddy conditions caused by Typhoon Danas, the organizers decided to move the venue to the "Taichung International Mini Egg." This venue change also shifts the main event area from Blue Legislator Luo Ting-wei's district to that of Blue Legislator Huang Jian-hao.
Insiders revealed that the decision to change the venue was made to avoid a repeat of the embarrassing situation during the presidential election rally that Han Kuo-yu held in Taichung on December 29, 2019, where heavy rain turned the area into a muddy mess. With just three days left before the event, the organizers swiftly made this change to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Confirmed attendees include Taichung City Mayor Lu Shiow-yen, Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu, People’s Party Chair Ko Wen-je, together with the convenor of the opposition alliance, Cheng Li-wen; Fighting Blue founder Chao Shao-kang; and media personalities Chen Zhi-han and Dong Zhi-sen. Additionally, the six Blue legislators in Taichung who are facing proposed referendums are expected to attend, showcasing the unity of the opposition coalition.
The "Love Me Again" rally will open its doors at 5:30 PM, with media personality Wang Qianqiu as the host. However, reports indicate that Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun will not be on the attendance list. According to party insiders, Zhu received an invitation but cannot attend because he will be campaigning in northern Taiwan for Blue legislators facing referendums. That evening, he is also scheduled to participate in an anti-referendum rally in Taoyuan.
Facing the upcoming elections, the Fighting Blue and opposition coalition aim to consolidate their forces through this event to enhance their resistance against the referendums. More events are in the pipeline, demonstrating the mobilization and organizational strength of the opposition camp, as they hope to focus on more critical economic issues and rally voter support.
